Prostituting "A's"?

After many conversations,
 beggings,
and debates,
River and I came to an agreement that he would get paid for his A's and B's on his report card.
I didn't really have a stance on how I felt about "paying for grades", before he and I's business meeting, but my first reaction for some reason was always "NO!"
River was a great attorney presenting his case,  and I, being the jury, was swayed to agree with his defense.
"Mom! I work very hard to do my homework and study for tests.
I go to school everyday, and have H's  in citizenship in all my classes.
This is my job right now.
How about if I take half of what I earn and put it in my college fund?
It's like, if I work hard now, I will benefit from it later."
Well, how the hell do you argue with that?
Or am I just not a good prosecutor???
My hopes is that he is proud of his efforts and feels that there is a payoff and acknowledgment for hard work and responsibility.
And, ya never know.....maybe he will get a scholarship with the grades he strives to keep high for payment, and then he and I can use his college fund for a great vaca!!!!!
WIN-WIN if you ask me!

What are your feelings about paying for grades???

Hey, at least you don't have to pay him NOT to get D's & F's! Kids are painfully financially savvy these days. Just watch how many ads on TV, radio, the Web and in today's paper target the young-uns! Money is a great motivator!! Ooh--gotta go, Boss Lady is ringin' my bell! ;)

We pay for grades. Always have. My parents paid me too. Actually they paid me to attend school... Well okay, that might not be the best example.

Anyways, we pay good for A's. Not so good for B's and they have to pay us for C and Below. We also give then $100 for perfect attendance. Luckily it has been a few years since we have had to pay out for that one. I think he had a point though, it is his full time job. I really don't require much more from my kids. School and homework is #1. (So hopefully they can get big fat scholarships to help pay for college).

On the opposite side I DO NOT PAY FOR CHORES. They don't get paid to take out the trash. They don't get paid to scrub the nasty toilet. They don't get paid to clean their rooms. Because this is real life. Nobody "PAYS" me to clean up after myself and be a cleanly person. The payment is the reward itself right? If they want or need to earn extra money we come up with extra projects they can do.

Do I ramble on and on and on enough?

I am not opposed to paying for good grades. In fact...I love Megan's approach-"we pay you for good grades and you pay us for bad grades". I think that is a GREAT idea! Anything that can help to motivate good grades that might lead to a college scholarship is a win win.

I love this....I can just hear River saying all this and see the serious look on his face while he's saying it.

I love Meg's approach too!
All of it!!!

I honestly can't imagine being able to pay out for perfect attendance. Is that even possible??? I remember my cousins getting perfect attendance, but they went to school sick some of the time to make the 100%. I guess I'm too much of a softy...I would say, "awe, poor babe...stay home today and get some rest." I'm a super soft marshmallow when it comes to my kids not feeling well....and I mean, "truly not feeling well". I can tell a faker!
maybe I need to start behaving like a stale, hardened marshmallow puff....or not like a piece of something sweet at all!!! hmmmmm...maybe more like liver and onions!!! yah!!! thats it! I'm going to be liver and onion from now on!!!
Jax has no idea the stank coming his way!!!!
arrrrrgh!

shit!!!! talk about rambling!!! where did i get off track!! my hell!
